Final day at the Bahrain Formula One

It’s race day and the atmosphere at the track has been amazing. This morning as we were on our way to the helicopter to start the day we found ourselves standing next to the formidable Bernie Ecclestone as he made a visit to the media centre to talk to the press. He certainly commands attention, although we didn’t stay around to hear what he had to say.

But even more exciting was the fact that we were given permission to be airborne when the Gulf Air Airbus 340 flypast took place over the race track. This is the first time this has ever been permitted and it gave us some incredible footage of the plane approaching, circling and approaching again. We were in contact with the captain the whole time before and during the flypast so we knew exactly where he was going to be at all times.
Yesterday we took the director up so he could get an idea of what it was like to do our job and this morning he gave us a tour of the communications centre which is where all of the footage gets relayed around the world. There are around 50 cameras located all around the track as well as our aerial camera capturing the race and a team of more than 100 people working to edit and get this out to the world.
The filming of the race went very well and everyone was happy with the footage of the race.
Now the race is over Roger will check and clean the aircraft ready to depart tomorrow morning back to Dubai. It has been an incredible experience as always and I look forward to the next event.
